Piles are swollen veins in the anal area and exist in 2 forms; internal and external. Internal piles occur in the anal canal and external piles occur when piles swell to the extent that they are
visible outside the anus. External piles can be visible to the naked eye and may look like small lumps of skin or, in extreme cases, like very small bunches of grapes. Both internal and external piles can be very uncomfortable and even painful and passing stools
can be a particularly painful experience.
